From Blossom to Berry – Spring in the Vineyard
I
There’s a special kind of magic in the vineyard at this time of year. The air is warmer, the soil is waking up, and everywhere you look, there are signs of new life. Spring marks the most hopeful and transformative season in the winemaking calendar — and at Post House Wines, it’s a time when the vineyard starts writing the story of the next vintage.
The Journey from Budburst to Flowering
In early spring, vines awaken from their winter dormancy with budburst, when tiny green shoots emerge from the bare canes. As the days grow longer and the temperatures rise, those shoots develop into delicate flowers.
This stage is called flowering, and it’s one of the most crucial moments in the vineyard year. Each flower carries the potential to become a grape berry. The more even and successful the flowering, the better the quality and consistency of the harvest to come.

Nature’s Role in the Vineyard
While spring brings beauty, it also brings uncertainty. Wind, rain, and temperature swings can all influence flowering success. At Post House Wines, we rely on the balance of our terroir — lean soils, gentle slopes, and a cool maritime breeze — to guide nature’s hand.
Because we believe in minimal intervention, we let the vineyard lead the process, stepping in only when absolutely necessary. The vines are living systems, and our role is to nurture them — not control them.
From Flower to Fruit
As flowering ends, tiny berries begin to form. This is when the vineyard truly transforms — lush green vines stretch across the rows, buzzing with bees, birds, and the hum of life.
It’s easy to forget when you hold a glass of deep, dark Post House red, that every sip begins here: with a few fragile blossoms in spring.
The Promise of a New Vintage
Every season brings its own challenges, but spring carries an undeniable optimism. At Post House, we watch, wait, and prepare for the months ahead — pruning, monitoring growth, and trusting in the natural rhythm of the vineyard.
Each new vintage begins with a promise — and for us, that promise starts right now, in the heart of spring.
